Draft Range

Brian Burns is one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft. Burns value is dependent more than other prospects on his size and testing. If Burns weighs in over 240 pounds and runs well, he should be a top 15 pick. If there are questions about his weight, or if he shows up bigger and runs slower he could see a drop in draft placement. If Burns is around after the middle of the first round, the Chiefs could find themselves trading up for the talented edge rusher.

Fit with Kansas City

The Chiefs are facing the likely departure of Justin Houston and will need another pass rusher for Spagnuolo’s aggressive defense. Burns, even if he weighs in well, would be considered undersized for a traditional 4-3 defensive end but has the talent to compensate for that difference. The Florida State pass rusher would also be additional insurance if Dee Ford ends up hitting the open market next year or failing to live up to the franchise tag expectations.

Brian Burns has the opportunity to be an immediate pass rushing threat, similar to Tennessee Titan’s first-year pass rusher Harold Landry. Burns would be a phenomenal addition to the Kansas City defense.
