Kansas City Chiefs sign offensive lineman Justin Senior
By Matt Conner
Former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Justin Senior has signed a futures/reserve contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs have added another young prospect to the mix to compete along the offensive line this offseason with the signing of Justin Senior.
Senior was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round, No. 210 overall, of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs have yet to make an official announcement about Senior’s signing, but the player made no secret of the move with a post on Instagram showing him signing his professional contract with the team.
Senior, who is a native of Montreal, Quebec, will join two other fellow Canadians along the team’s offensive line in Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Ryan Hunter. In general, he also joins a very, very competitive positional group for the Chiefs.
Even if Mitch Morse leaves the team in free agency, the Chiefs still return five starters from last year if you include Austin Reiter who subbed for Morse in his several game absence. Eric Fisher and Mitch Schwartz are locked into the starting tackle spots with an interior from left to right of Cam Erving, Austin Reiter and LDT.
Andrew Wylie was the team’s rookie of the year last year and is fluid enough to start at multiple positions. The Chiefs also worked to protect Jimmy Murray and Isaiah McKenzie as rookies last year on the active roster. Dillon Gordon, Pace Murphy and Tejan Koroma are also under contract for 2019 as developmental options.
Senior is a big strong body at 6’5, 330 lbs. and started every single game but one for Mississippi over three seasons, which gives him a lot of top college experience coming into the pros. However he failed to ever make the team after being injured in training camp. He was ultimately released with a settlement from Seattle He sat out all of last season. .
