Former Chiefs shine in Alliance of American Football’s opening weekend

San Diego Fleet v. San Antonio Commanders
Unlike the first game slated on Saturday night, this one was competitive throughout. Logan Woodside of the Commanders and Mike Bercovici of the Fleet were both pushing the ball downfield looking for big plays. This aggressive quarterback play came back to bite both players as each threw two interceptions on the night with no touchdowns. At half time the game was tied at 6-6, and the first touchdown would not be scored until the beginning of the fourth quarter when Kenneth Farrow rushed for three yards for the score. The game ended with a score of 15-6 in favor of the San Antonio.
Both defenses played well in their first action of the season. The Commanders finished the game with six sacks and three interceptions. The ability to get six sacks even though the AAF limits defenses to only five pass rushers is impressive, and shows how creative defensive coordinators can get. The Commanders offense finished with three receivers with over at least 60 yards receiving. For San Antonios inaugural game they looked like a well-oiled machine. Their matchup against the Orlando Apollos next week should be the game to watch.
San Diego’s defense was able to accumulate three sacks of their own on top of the two picks that Woodside threw. The Fleets offense also played well finishing with two receivers finishing with over 60 yards. Former Chiefs tight end Gavin Escobar was one of these players as he continued to show why he has flirted with multiple NFL teams throughout his career.
