Kansas City Chiefs hire coach Brendan Daly away from New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are down a defensive line coach after watching Brendan Daly take the same job with the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly hired away Brendan Daly from the New England Patriots to be their new defensive line coach, the same role he’s held under Bill Belichick in Foxborough for the last four years.
Daly will now be coaching the Chiefs defensive line under a familiar face in new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Daly was Spagnuolo’s defensive line coach in St. Louis when Spags was head coach of the Rams from 2009 to 2011.
Daly has plenty of experience in the role of defensive line coach considering he’s been coaching the same position for well over a decade. He’s been coaching up lines with the Rams, Patriots and Minnesota Vikings and he now joins the Chiefs in a goal to reestablish a strong defense, bringing his Super Bowl experience to the mix.
Spagnuolo has made several new hires for the Chiefs in the last few days. Daly joins new linebackers coach Matt House, formerly a defensive coordinator for the University of Kentucky. The Chiefs also hired David Merritt to coach their defensive backs.
It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs say when all of these coaching additions are officially announced. Head coach Andy Reid’s own son, Britt Reid, has served as defensive line coach under longtime defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. Reid has clearly given Spagnuolo full permission to hire his own staff, but it’s going to lead to some intriguing situations internally. The same can be said of how the team handles Emmitt Thomas as defensive backs coach, a team legend who is seemingly being replaced.
Spagnuolo replaced Sutton as defensive coordinator shortly after the Chiefs season was over. Sutton held the role for six seasons under Andy Reid.
