DAVID WELLS, TE

Most people probably don’t even remember David Wells, and those that do, don’t remember him fondly. That is not because he did anything wrong, for the Chiefs to make room for Wells they were forced to waive fan favorite Arrion Springs. If you were to look at Wells stats from his time at San Diego State University, you wouldn’t be blown away either. He only started 19 games over his four years in college while just gaining 438 yards receiving and six touchdowns.

Wells value is not as a pass catcher. Instead, you have to look at his teammates to find out where his real value lies. Wells helped block for both Donnel Pumphrey and Rashad Penny in 2016 and 2017. Both of these players lead the FBS in rushing over those two years. With the Chiefs already having an elite receiving tight end in Travis Kelce, it would make sense for them to bring in another guy that is primarily a blocking tight end.
