Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas was arrested in Allen County, Kansas on Saturday for suspicion of marijuana possession.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas was arrested on Saturday in Allen County, Kansas. According to reports from the county sheriff’s office, Thomas was arrested on charges of suspicion of marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia both.

Thomas was arrested on Saturday but per recent records on Sunday, Thomas had “bonded out” of jail. No further details of the arrest have been made known at this time. Thought Thomas has been active on social media since his arrest on Saturday, the player has made no official statement nor has his agent or the team (as of press time).

Thomas spent the majority of this last season on injured reserve for the Chiefs after suffering a fractured leg in October. Thomas was largely a special teams ace and return option who would provide the occasional target on offense. The Chiefs brought back DAT on a one-year, $800,000 deal this past offseason after he’d ended the 2017 season on injured reserve as well—also with a leg injury.

Given the fact that Thomas has ended two straight seasons on IR, he was likely going to face significant competition for a roster spot as he entered unrestricted free agency this spring. Now, however, legal issues will only serve to cloud that competition even further. Now teams besides the Chiefs are going to have character concerns and potential discipline by the league to consider even as he hopes to sign on with someone for 2019.

Thomas entered the NFL as the Chiefs fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
