STEVE SPAGNUOLO

I would like to see Andy Reid hire Steve Spagnuolo as the new defensive coordinator for the Kanas City Chiefs.

Spagnuolo’s NFL career began with Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles back in 1999 so there’s a level of comfort here for Reid, who worked with Spagnuolo for 8 seasons. Spagnuolo was the Eagles linebackers and defensive backs coach under former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson who, at that time, was known to be one of the most aggressive and creative defensive minds in the league. Under Johnson’s mentorship, Spagnuolo learned the art of disguised blitzes and putting pressure on QBs.

Spagnuolo also has a Super Bowl ring, serving as defensive coordinator for the Giants in 2007 when his defensive unit beat the offensive juggernaut of that season, the 16-0 New England Patriots.

Next. Andy Reid's choice for DC will reflect his evolution as HC. dark

Finally, from what I know of Spagnuolo’s personality, I think he would be a great fit in the locker room. I lived in St. Louis during his tenure as the Rams head coach (2009-2011) and heard lots of positive things about him personally. He doesn’t appear to let his ego get in the way, and the Chiefs don’t need any distractions. [Matthew K. Loomis]
