The Indianapolis Colts are going to be without Mike Mitchell for sure and Malik Hooker is day to day as the safeties prepare to play the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs know very well how the Indianapolis Colts are feeling when it comes to the health and wellness of their safeties. For the Chiefs, it’s been a long year dealing with injuries to the secondary and now the Colts are wrestling with the same as they prepare to visit Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

Colts head coach Frank Reich detailed some injury updates on Tuesday with Sirius XM and said that veteran Mike Mitchell will not be able to play at all against the Chiefs after being placed on injured reserve. That rules out one important player in the Colts secondary already, a recent addition who has played in 8 games this year after being signed midseason (and started four). In limited time, Mitchell has 28 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception.

Reich also said that former first-round pick Malik Hooker, the team’s best overall safety, is day to day as he deals with a foot injury. Consequently, he missed Tuesday’s Colts practice. Hooker started 14 games for the Chiefs this year after missing most of last year due to injury as well. He had 44 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 passes defended for the Colts in 2018.

The Colts have some experienced players able to step into the starting line-up, especially for Mitchell where Clayton Geathers will take over. Geathers already started 12 games this season and has been with the Colts for the last four years, starting 24 games in that span. George Odum is likely next man up if Hooker cannot go, as Odum has already earned 2 starts this year and has played in all 16 games.
