The Kansas City Chiefs are the number one seed in the AFC, and with that comes a few benefits this postseason. One of the biggest benefits is the enjoyment of a first-round bye, one that has allowed the Chiefs to rest up. In turn, this could include the possible return of some players lost to injury. In particular, we’re concerned with three big injuries that have plagued the Chiefs in 2018: safety Eric Berry, running back Spencer Ware, and wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

ERIC BERRY

All of Chiefs Kingdom was happy to see the return of the defensive general Eric Berry during a week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but that feeling did not last long. After another loss in primetime against the Seattle Seahawks, Berry again found himself on the injury report. He did not play in the week 17 blowout of the Oakland Raiders, which raised suspicion from fans. Berry had been fighting through a heel injury that’s been diagnosed as Haglund’s deformity or a bone spur.

The bye will help Berry rest, and hopefully, the chiefs will have their star safety back in time to start preparing for their divisional round opponents. Getting Berry back would be a great addition to a secondary that has struggled the entire season. The Pro Bowler still has not played an entire game, but when he has played he has made the most of his play time.

The good news is that, in his absence, the Chiefs have made do with backups, but when it comes to the postseason there is nothing better than having an All-Pro safety calling the shots. Bottom line, Berry is a great player. Here’s hoping the extra bye week gives Berry a fighting chance at playing a full game.
