10. Tyreek Sets The Record

Setting: Week 17 vs. Oakland Raiders

If you need context for just how incredible Mahomes is compared to the average quarterback, consider this 67-yard touchdown pass  to Tyreek Hill. It’s notable itself for what it accomplishes for Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs best wide receiver, since on this very play, Hill set a new franchise record for most receiving yards in a single season.

But for Mahomes, here’s the insane part. Last year, this particular throw would have been the longest throw of the year for a quarter of the NFL. Instead it’s just another effortless deep throw to put his team up by a touchdown in the opening quarter. Sixty seven yards? No problem. It’s as simple as that.

9. Matrix Mahomes

Setting: Week 4 @ Denver Broncos

You might wonder why an incomplete pass would make such a list, but watch this closely. This is a drop on the part of Demarcus Robinson in the end zone on a pass that Mahomes had absolutely no business ever attempting in the first place. Somehow he Matrixes his arm free of incoming pass rushers in order to get enough strength to throw this right on the money. This could be the play of the year if completed.

8. Mahomes Throws Laser to Conley

Setting: Week 2 @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Mahomes had already put up four touchdown throws on the Steelers in Week 2 (he would end up with six), but here at the goal line, he utilizes a play-action rollout and keeps his eyes on the back of the end zone. He throws a laser like a shortstop who has crept in to handle a bunt throwing to first base. It’s incredible and even the announcers just have to laugh.

7. A Quick Deep Strike

Setting: Week 11 @ L.A. Rams

The game of the year. The Rams were unrelenting in their treatment of the Chiefs defense, and it looked like the game might start to get away from the Chiefs. Down by 10, the Chiefs take over and Mahomes decides to make quick work of it all. Hill is able to get wide open deep on the play action and Mahomes simply sets his feet and delivers. Seventy three yards later, the Chiefs are back within three.

6. 70 Yards in the Air

Setting: Preseason vs. Atlanta Falcons

Wanna know when we got our first inclination that Mahomes was the real deal? This was that moment for a lot of folks. 70 yards in the air!
