Tyreek Hill is now a record-holder for the Kansas City Chiefs with the most receiving yards in a single season in franchise history.

Tyreek Hill has already been named to his third straight Pro Bowl, including his first as a wide receiver, in his third season in the NFL. In the midst of such an incredible season, he can now add “franchise record holder” to his resume.

The Kansas City Chiefs wideout set the team record for most receiving yards in a single season with 1,445 (with more to come) during Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Hill has been on a record-setting pace for some time, and on Sunday, in the final week of the regular season, he finally eclipsed the 18-year-old mark of Derrick Alexander, who set the previous record with 1,381 receiving yards back in 2000.

Hill set the record in the first quarter by catching a 67-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. It was a special moment for a player who faced significant doubts about his ability to ever play the position from many NFL experts, who labeled him more of a gadget player or pigeonholed him as a returner. The Chiefs made the decision to shift him to wide receiver full-time after his rookie year flexed him all over the field in various roles and the investment and wisdom paid off in spades over the last two seasons.

Hill now has his second straight season over 1,000 yards and he also set a career-high this year with 12 receiving touchdowns. He’s proved to be more than just the NFL’s fastest player, however, as he’s become excellent at tracking the ball and running accurate routes. Hopefully, this year’s record and forthcoming Pro Bowl nod will cement him as one of the league’s top wide receivers in the eyes of the casual NFL fan.

In Kansas City, at least, he’s already a legend on the field.
