Avery Williamson, Inside Linebacker, New York Jets

Williamson is a holdover from my wish list last season, and he has continued to be a productive defender. Williamson has earned a long-term deal after signing a one-year deal with New York.

Williams has 107 tackles, with 6 of those going for a loss, 3 sacks, and 4 pass deflections. Williamson is a swiss army knife in the middle of the defense.

It may be a long shot for the Chiefs to bring in a high profile linebacker like Williamson after opening up the checkbook for Anthony Hitchens the last offseason. Unfortunately, Hitchens has not lived up to his contract and Williamson looks like he would have been the better investment for the Chiefs defense.

The Chiefs defense needs to improve in the middle. Reggie Ragland, while well-liked and a high effort player, has shown his limitations and has not shown enough to be relied upon as a long-term starter. The Chiefs have little financial obligation toward Ragland and can move on from him after the 2019 season if they choose.

Interestingly enough, the Chiefs can move on from Hitchens at the same time without much penalty. Bringing in Williamson may cover for the mistake that Hitchens appears to be.
