Deone Bucannon, Safety/Linebacker, Arizona Cardinals

Deone Bucannon found his name swirling in trade rumors earlier this season but ultimately stayed in Arizona. Bucannon’s story is an odd one, as he had flashes of being a dynamic and versatile defensive piece in his first two seasons, before nagging injuries and scheme changes slowed his production.

Bucannon can be a nickel linebacker or third safety for the Chiefs defense, and provide mentorship for Dorian O’Daniel. Bucannon had a tremendous 2015 season playing the hybrid safety/linebacker role. There may be some questions about where Bucannon should play exactly, but at the end of the day he has shown the ability to play in the league and could be a cheap upgrade for Kansas City.

Bucannon will be looking to prove himself and could be lured into a one or two year deal as a rotational player for Kansas City. Bucannon is only 26 years old and could find himself being a long-term piece in a defense somewhere.

If the Chiefs were able to bring Bucannon in on a short contract to help him rehabilitate his image and showcase his strengths, it could be a win-win arrangement for both parties. The Chiefs would add a productive player, and Bucannon would be in the position to sign a bigger deal elsewhere.
