Two of the biggest Pro Bowl snubs were made right (in a way) with the inclusion of Chris Jones and Mitchell Schwartz as alternates for the AFC.
On Tuesday evening, six members of the Kansas City Chiefs were announced as Pro Bowl performers including starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Less than 24 hours later, another five members of the Chiefs roster joined their teammates to comprise the newest members of the AFC’s roster.
The Chiefs now have 11 total Pro Bowl players on the team with a decent representation from all facets of the game.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs were able to honor five new players who joined the AFC’s all-star roster, including two of the most notable snubs from the originally announced team. Defensive lineman Chris Jones is third in the NFL in sacks overall with 14 and just tied an NFL record with his 10th sack in 10 games. Somehow, however, he was left off of the original list.
Right tackle Mitchell Schwartz, the other primary snub, is the NFL’s ironman and has played his position at a near flawless level for most of the season. He’s earned previous All-Pro honors but this is his first Pro Bowl nomination.
As for the others, the Chiefs special teams were seriously honored with the inclusion of kicker Harrison Butker and punter Dustin Colquitt. Linebacker Anthony Hitchens was also given a Pro Bowl alternate spot.
Those five Chiefs players join Mahomes and the five previously announced starters, a list that includes tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, pass rusher Dee Ford, left tackle Eric Fisher and fullback Anthony Sherman.
The 2019 Pro Bowl will take place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. C.T.
