The Chiefs need to make sure they keep home field advantage in the playoffs.

Look, this one is self-explanatory and doesn’t need a lot of debate. The Chiefs two losses this season have both come on the road and as I mentioned earlier those games being at Arrowhead would have likely been enough to turn them into wins for the Chiefs. Kansas City currently holds a clear lead in the AFC for home field but there are four teams still nipping at their heels. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Houston Texans are all within striking distance of the Chiefs should they falter down the stretch.

However, the Chiefs have a favorable schedule that should allow them to keep home field if they don’t have a letdown game (or two). Here are their remaining games.

  • @ Oakland Raiders
  • vs. Baltimore Ravens
  • vs. Los Angeles Chargers
  • @ Seattle Seahawks
  • vs. Oakland Raiders

The Chiefs will be the favored team in every single one of those games. So the question is if they have the focus and determination to take care of business. Hopefully, the loss to the Rams keeps them hungry. The two toughest AFC matchups against the Ravens and Chargers are both at Arrowhead, which should help. The only tough road game remaining (sorry Raiders fans) is at Seattle. The Seahawks may still be fighting for a playoff spot and that stadium isn’t the easiest place to play at. So the Chiefs need to approach all of these games as essential for keeping their Super Bowl dreams alive.

If the Chiefs play the AFC Championship against the Patriots or Steelers in Arrowhead I like their odds to win. If they have to go on the road to Pittsburgh or Foxboro that changes things quite a bit.

The final step is the one that is the most out of K.C.’s control.
