The Kansas City Chiefs will have Sammy Watkins in the starting lineup on Monday against the Los Angles Rams.
The Kansas City Chiefs got a nice boost to their already potent offense before kickoff on Monday Night Football with word that injured wide receiver Sammy Watkins would be able to play and will actually start for the team against the Los Angeles Rams, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Watkins was questionable for the Chiefs entering the day on the team’s injury report due to lingering pain in his foot suffered late in the Chiefs win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 9. The Chiefs held out Watkins against the Arizona Cardinals in a win last Sunday in Week 10, mostly as a precautionary measure, and they hoped Watkins would be back up to speed to play against his former team, the Rams.
Unfortunately this week, Watkins went from practicing earlier in the week to missing the final two practices of the weekend and was then listed as questionable. Even before the game, it wasn’t clear if he would play until he worked with trainers, says Ed Werder, but clearly he feels well enough to make it work.
The Chiefs offense is already a dangerous unit with Pro Bowl weapons like Tyreek Hill at wide receiver, Travis Kelce at tight end and Kareem Hunt at running back. However the addition of Watkins this offseason has turned an already great offense into an elite one. The Chiefs simply have too many weapons for any defense to handle with Watkins and it’s a nightmare for a defensive coordinator to cover.
Watkins has 39 catches for 515 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on the season.
