David Amerson lasted a total of four days with the Arizona Cardinals with his release on Saturday. He was let go along with WR Kendall Wright.

The Arizona Cardinals released two players on Saturday that are familiar faces to one degree or another to Kansas City Chiefs fans.

The primary name to come across the transaction wire is cornerback David Amerson, a defensive back who spent the entire offseason and preseason with the Chiefs only to be let go as the Chiefs made final cuts and various roster moves. Amerson was signed on the cheap to a one-year free-agent deal after being let go by the Oakland Raiders, but Amerson failed to impress despite being given every opportunity to grab a starting role.

Amerson has had a few tryouts in the last year but no team has kept him on the roster long enough to actually suit up in a game. The results are a bit surprising given how strongly he’s shown in years past with the Raiders, good enough to earn a decent contract extension. Injuries have hurt him most recently, but he was a full-time starter just a year and a half ago in Oakland.

For the Chiefs, they released Amerson as a cheap veteran option and signed another when Orlando Scandrick was released by the Dallas Cowboys. After a bit of a slow start, Scandrick has performed much better than expected, and the entire stable of corners on the roster has improved significantly as the season has progressed. Kendall Fuller has settled into his role in Bob Sutton’s schemes, and Steven Nelson looks better than ever as he approaches free agency.

dark. Next. Does Bob Sutton deserve an apology?

Along with Amerson, the Cards also released wide receiver Kendall Wright, a player the Chiefs brought in for a free agent tryout at slot receiver even after signing Sammy Watkins to a big money deal. Wright left without a deal and signed with the Minnesota Vikings instead. However, he was cut before rosters were due and the Cardinals signed him instead. This was his second such stint in Arizona this season.
