Chiefs cornerbacks continue to impress

As one of my biggest concerns coming into the season, the cornerback position group has impressed me all season. Despite going up against tough playmakers in the first half of the season, they have held it together and made plays of their own. One player in particular that I’ve been impressed with is Steven Nelson.

Nelson has been shadowed by Marcus Peters over the last few seasons when he’s been healthy. Without Peters on the field and not missing time due to injury, Nelson has stepped up his game enormously. He allowed only one reception on five targets while collecting three pass breakups and an interception to end the game on Sunday. According to PFF, Nelson ranks 11th in cornerback rankings through ten weeks of football.

Orlando Scandrick is another player that continues to look like a gem that couldn’t have come at a better time for Kansas City. After the Washington Redskins decided to go with younger talent and cut Scandrick, the Chiefs were quick to bring him in to replace David Amerson. That move has boosted well for the Chiefs defense and Scandrick continues to shut down his side for the most part. He allowed only two pass completions that went for a combined ten yards against Arizona.
