Given poor field conditions, the NFL might decide to postpone the upcoming Monday Night Football game between the Rams and Chiefs.

Given the level of hype and excitement over the upcoming Monday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs, Adam Schefter revealed some news that will come as a letdown to nearly everyone who calls himself or herself a football fan. The National Football League might decide to postpone the game, per Schefter, due to poor field conditions.

Officials had reportedly been worried about the state of the playing field for a while now as rains have ruined the surface at Aztec Stadium in Mexico City.

The league schedules these games in international places in order to further the league’s presence and popularity but doing so always comes with such caveats—uncontrollable forces at work that don’t have to live up to NFL oversight or regulations.

This single game between the Rams and Chiefs is perhaps the most anticipated game of the entire regular season among NFL fans given that it pits two likely Super Bowl contenders against each other in a preview of sorts. The Rams and Chiefs are both 9-1 and sit atop their respective conferences. L.A. has a half-game lead over the New Orleans Saints, while the Chiefs are now 1.5 games over the New England Patriots and L.A. Chargers for the No. 2 seed.

In addition to matching up two successful teams, both franchises also feature young, dynamic offenses that are setting the league on fire. The Chiefs have scored 73 more points than their closest competitor on the strength of Patrick Mahomes arm and Tyreek Hill‘s speed—not to mention the presence of Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt and Sammy Watkins.

Meanwhile the Rams have more weapons than most other teams with Brandin Cooks as the deep threat, Robert Woods as the dependable wideout and Todd Gurley as the offensive cornerstone—an MVP candidate who is undoubtedly the best running back in the game.

No further details were given about a potential postponement, but it should be noted that both teams have a bye following the MNF game which could give the league some flexibility.
