Scouting The Defense

The defensive side of the ball has had their struggles. Per DVOA, their defense is rated relatively high sitting at eighth overall so far this season. Their pass defense is also ranked eighth, while their rush defense is ranked 12th. Their points per game so far this season is listed at 18th overall at 24.9, for comparison that is only .02 points better than where the Chiefs rank so far this season.

The Cardinals have had to try and find someone to replace Tyrann Mathieu after the Cardinals had released him. Mathieu went on to sign with the Houston Texans which left a big hole in the secondary for Arizona. They have attempted to replace him with Tre Boston who has graded out this season as the 29th best safety in the league by Pro Football Focus.

There are still stars on this defense as well. Chandler Jones and Patrick Peterson both have continued to play at high levels this season while leading this defense. Even though Peterson had asked for a trade a few weeks ago, Cardinals decided to keep him moving forward. Both of these players will be who the Chiefs will be game planning for specifically this Sunday.

While the Cardinals defense is rated as top 10 so far this season, the Chiefs should have no problem putting up points as usual. Mahomes could be looking at a ninth consecutive game of 300 or more yards which would be another record he will have broken this season. As long as Kansas City takes care of business on Sunday, the Chiefs can look forward to their next game against the Rams in Mexico City.
