Jeff Allen will reportedly sign with Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly set to add a familiar face to the offensive interior with the signing of free agent OL Jeff Allen.
The Kansas City Chiefs could use some serious help along the offensive interior after suffering a couple recent injuries. Fortunately some solid help is available on the free agent market in the form of an already familiar face: offensive lineman Jeff Allen.
Mike Garafolo is reporting that Allen will return to the Chiefs if he’s deemed healthy and ready in his physical. Allen began his NFL career with the Chiefs as the team’s second round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
After playing out his rookie deal with the Chiefs, Allen left in free agency to sign with the Houston Texans in 2016 when offered a four-year deal worth $28 million. The Texans then released him this past July and he’s remained a free agent ever since.
Allen had always been a promising and productive player along the Chiefs offensive line who could be plugged into a number of positions. Unfortunately he always had similar issues staying healthy and missed several games over his last two seasons in K.C.
The Chiefs could use a player like Allen at this stage, someone experienced who can come in and help an ailing offensive line that has lost both center Mitch Morse and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in the last two weeks. Morse has a concussion which makes it unclear when he will return. Duvernay-Tardif broke his fibula and could potentially be lost for the rest of the year. The Chiefs went with Jordan Devey and Andrew Wylie in their absence.
Allen has started 26 games in the last two years for the Texans.
