The Kansas City Chiefs offensive success is good for business

Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce is the most charismatic Chiefs player around, at least on the offensive side, which has helped him carve out a name for himself thus far. He’s fairly well known as the second best tight end in the game behind Rob Gronkowski (and we’re willing to debate that ranking if you’d like). He had his own dating reality show, has plenty of charm and comes equipped with wonderful touchdown gestures.
Even still, it seems like Kelce doesn’t quite get the spotlight that he deserves. Players of his stature should be selling jerseys left and right to people in every single time zone. Instead, Kelce is often missing from NFL’s best selling merch lists. The league itself voted Travis Kelce as No. 24 and No. 26 among the top 100 players in the entire league in the last two years, yet somehow Kelce is already listed as a great tight end.
Here’s what’s true about Kelce: he’s one of the best offensive weapons in football. He’s not just a great tight end. He’s an elite pass catcher, a weapon for whom there is no single answer. The Chiefs completely fell apart when he was lost against the Titans with a concussion, an entire year flushed down the drain because the team became one-dimensional.
Watching Kelce over these last two weeks with Mahomes shows that he’s going to develop great chemistry with anyone who plays quarterback, because any QB worth his salt will know that you go with the mismatch Kelce creates more often than not. On Sunday he had 8 catches on 10 targets for 114 receiving yards, and he’s on page for a career-high 1,216 receiving yards. His streak of three straight Pro Bowls will undoubtedly extend to four, but hopefully Kelce will become a true household name in 2018.
