Despite being listed as questionable with a thigh injury, cornerback Adam Jones will return to the line-up for the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

The Denver Broncos got a bit of good news on Monday afternoon as the team prepares to host the visiting Kansas City Chiefs at Mile High Stadium in primetime. Cornerback Adam Jones has been cleared to play after suffering a thigh injury and will play against K.C. despite being listed as questionable earlier in the week.

Monday Night Football will be an epic showdown between the two teams atop the AFC West early in the season. Not only are the teams division rivals, but this year they’re complements of each other—with Denver’s vaunted defense anchored by Von Miller and Bradley Chubb against Kansas City’s explosive offense with an array of weapons surrounding the cannon arm of Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes enters tonight’s game with two more passing touchdowns than anyone else in the NFL and that’s with one less game played than nearly anyone else besides the Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers, both teams that had their bye in Week 4. That means that the addition of Jones comes at a good time, strengthening the depth chart for the Broncos at a key moment when playing against the most powerful passing offense in the league.

Jones has one interception in two games so far this year for the Broncos, his first season with the team. The 12-year NFL veteran spent the last eight seasons in Cincinnati with the Bengals. The Broncos added Jones to help ease the loss of trading another veteran to the L.A. Rams in Aqib Talib.

Bradley Roby and Chris Harris have the outside corner spots locked down for the Broncos, but the addition of Jones helps in obvious passing situations and with depth. If Tramaine Brock can also suit up after dealing with injury as well, the Broncos could be back to full strength in the secondary at just the right time.
