Chiefs injury report: Dee Ford, Terrance Smith return to practice
By Jalon Dodson
Another day, another practice without Kansas City Chiefs star safety Eric Berry. Fortunately Dee Ford returns to work.
The Kansas City Chiefs released their official injury report for Friday’s practice, and once again, Berry was not a participant in today’s drills. A few Chiefs listed on Thursday’s injury report that didn’t practice, being Dee Ford, Justin Houston, and Terrance Smith all returned to practice. Ford, who suffered a groin strain against the San Francisco 49ers, had been the subject of speculation by some Chiefs fans.
Amid radio silence until Thursday, Ford’s status and extent of his injury were unknown. After not practicing on Thursday, it garnered some cause for concern. It’s relieving, to say the least, that the best pass rusher for the Chiefs this year returned to practice today, however, as a limited participant. Houston also returned to practice, however, his reason for being on the injury report was not specifically injury related, so there’s not much reason to worry on that front.
Berry remains the only Chief to not practice, and he hasn’t practiced for the Chiefs since August 11. Rather frustrating, yet expected news. The hope is that he returns to practice next week and is able to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the timeline has already been bumped back. It’s possible he doesn’t play until midseason. Even then, no one is really sure of anything at this point.
Aside from those who did not participate in practice on Thursday, there were 7 players for the Chiefs who all were full participants in practice yesterday and today. As it stands right now, it appears the only injury and player the Chiefs will be without is going to be the aforementioned Eric Berry. Anything can happen, though, and that’s especially true for a member of the Denver Broncos.
Broncos tight end Jake Butt, unfortunately, tore his ACL in practice on Thursday—the third time in his career. Disappointing news for Broncos fans, and unfortunate, saddening news for Butt. Defensive back Tramaine Brock was the only other player who did not practice on Thursday.
Aside from the nonparticipant and limited participant in Butt, there were seven other Broncos players who showed up on the injury report again for the club. Their status and injuries do not seem to be serious, however. Defensive tackle Shelby Harris, cornerback Adam Jones, inside linebacker Brandon Marshall, and safety Dymonte Thomas were all limited participants.
Quarterback Case Keenum, outside linebacker Shane Ray, and cornerback Isaac Yiadom were all full participants for the Broncos on Friday.
