Patrick Mahomes will be facing the Denver Broncos on Monday, the site of his first regular season win. What changes have the Broncos made to combat him?

It is a great time to be a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. There has not been an offense like the one we are currently witnessing since Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos tore through the league in 2013 setting multiple records along the way. The best part of this Chiefs offense? Second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes turned just 23-years-old this past week and has his sights set on trying to break every single record Manning and company established during that insane 2013 season. So far Mahomes has thrown for 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions on the year.

Not only is his current touchdown total the most through the first three weeks in the NFL ever, but he has also done that without turning the ball over. The fact that he has been this efficient with the ball says a lot about how important it was for Mahomes to sit and learn behind former Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith. Mahomes could have started last season and been a good quarterback, but being able to sit, and get the chance to learn the offense has helped him launch his career at a historic pace.

This week Mahomes will be looking to continue that pace against the Broncos, the team whose records he is currently shattering each week. Mahomes will be starting in his first ever primetime game Monday night in the same place that he achieved his first regular season win. Was it a meaningless game for the Chiefs at the time? Yes. However, the confidence boost that it gave Kansas City’s young signal caller though has been seen each week this year.

This year the Broncos will not be phoning it in like they were last season. The Chiefs have a chance to take a two-game lead on the rest of the division if they come out with a win. The Broncos, who also started 2-0 before falling to the Baltimore Ravens last week, will be looking to teach the new face of the Chiefs franchise what it is like to lose in the NFL. The stakes are high early in the season. What changes have the Broncos gone through since last year that the Chiefs may not be ready for?
