Patrick Mahomes looks like the next GREAT NFL quarterback

Almost every Kansas City Chiefs fan that I know or have talked to over the past year has been excited about Patrick Mahomes. From those early training camp practices his rookie year to the jaw dropping throws he made in his first preseason to the week 17 performance against the Broncos to the reports from NFL “insiders” that the Chiefs were thrilled with his development to their confidence in him being so high they traded away a solid starter in Alex Smith to that ridiculous 70 yard bomb to Tyreek Hill in this year’s preseason all signs have pointed to Patrick Mahomes being the answer at quarterback that fans have been waiting for.

Still, given all those positives, I still don’t think any of us expected him to be THIS good THIS soon. Patrick Mahomes doesn’t just look like a guy that could develop into one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL he looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL RIGHT NOW. It still sounds crazy to say. I feel weird just typing it but the numbers speak for themselves.

  • 69.1% completions
  • 10.6 yards per attempt
  • 291 yards per game
  • 10 touchdowns
  • 0 interceptions

Now, do I expect Patrick Mahomes to pass for 80 touchdowns and 0 interceptions on the season? Of course not. However, after watching him these first two weeks I don’t know that I think the yards and completion percentage numbers are a fluke. Will he have a clunker of a game at some point? Sure he will. Even the all time great quarterbacks have those days. The fact that Mahomes is so young just increases the odds of that happening. He may even have three or four of them before the season is over. That doesn’t change the fact that it looks like his ceiling as a quarterback is as high as any quarterback that has come into the NFL in a while.

If Patrick Mahomes is as good as he has looked the first two games of this season the Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to be Super Bowl contenders as long as they can put a competent team around him. I haven’t been this excited about a Chiefs player ever in my time as a Chiefs fan.

There simply isn’t anything in the NFL that is more of a game changer than having one of the best quarterbacks in the league and through two weeks of the season that is exactly what Patrick Mahomes has been.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Do you think this win over the Steelers was a game changer? Are your concerns about the defense keeping you from getting too excited or does Patrick Mahomes have you just as excited as I am? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!
