Each week, we will be handing out our weekly player awards to the members of the Kansas City Chiefs. Here are our Week 2 results.

Each week, we will be handing out our weekly player awards to the members of the Kansas City Chiefs who live up to (or down to) honors like “Offensive MVP” or “Defensive Disappointment.”

The Chiefs made quick strikes against the Pittsburgh Steelers offensively while the team’s defense held strong. Within the first five minutes of the first quarter, the Chiefs defense forced two 3-and-outs, both of which led to scores by the electric offense. The defense faltered throughout the rest of the game but stepped up when needed down the stretch—for the most part, anyway. By the end, the Steelers just had no answer for the plethora of fantastic weapons that the Chiefs boast.

Several Chiefs stood out today, making a name for themselves as last week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers was all Tyreek Hill. There were also some that fell short, though. Let’s get right into our top players and biggest disappointments from today’s game.

Chiefs Player on the Rise: Offense

I’ll be honest, it was hard to make this decision. The amount of offense the Chiefs have is almost unfair to other teams. Several receivers got their hands on the ball today, but unfortunately, we can only choose one per category.

Sammy Watkins was one of the most productive receivers today. On just 6 receptions, Watkins tallied 100 receiving yards. He also ran the ball for an impressive gain. After a near-tie for biggest disappointment of the week with Travis Kelce last week, he definitely showed up today. Maybe there’s hope for the $16 million receiver after all.

  • Receptions: 6
  • Receiving Yards: 100(16.7 per reception)
  • Carries: 1
  • Rushing Yards: 31
  • Total Yards: 131 APY

RUNNER-UP: Chris Conley (2 receptions, 17 yards, 1 receiving touchdown, 1 lost fumble)

Chiefs Player on the Rise: Defense

This player once again led the team in tackles, for the second straight week. It was a tight race between him and another player for player of the week honors, but he was able to be named the defensive player on the rise.

Anthony Hitchens led the team with 12 total tackles. He looked a bit better than he did last week, and continues to show that he has a place on this team. One of the major off-season free agency signings for the Chiefs, Hitchens looks to put his foot in the ground and make a bigger name for himself as a Chief.

  • Total Tackles: 12
  • Solo Tackles: 7
  • Assisted: 5

RUNNER-UP: Orlando Scandrick (I know, I know, but he’s showing improvement.)
