Kansas City Chiefs draft prospect profile: Michael Jackson, Sr., Miami cornerback

WEAKNESSES
Technique
This critique, I believe, has a lot to do with the system Jackson is playing in. There are a lot of little things that worry me about Jackson’s technique overall. He tends to open his hips and bail out instead of utilizing a back pedal at the snap. He also has a tendency to sit too high and too wide when lined up pre snap while pressing. Footwork is average and he drops his head when making contact with blockers. All of these are coachable issues but may mean Jackson needs a year before he sees an NFL field on a regular basis.
Athleticism
Similar to size, I believe making general statements about a prospects athleticism rarely has a consistent correlation to their success or failure. With that in mind, Jackson looks downright slow at times. This may also be the reason for his early bail and run technique problems. More concerning than the straight line speed, I did not see the agility and burst from Jackson that can make a player special. None of this is leads me to think that Jackson is not athletic enough for the NFL, but he may not be athletic enough to play on the outside or as a true shutdown corner.
