Why the Chiefs ugly win over the Chargers was a thing of beauty

The Kansas City Chiefs 38-28 win over the Los Angeles Chargers was FAR from perfect but that doesn’t make it any less satisfying.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 38-28 on the road to kick off their 2018 season. There were definitely some concerns along the way, and the Chargers basically did everything they could to hand the Chiefs the win, but at the end of the day the win is all that really matters.

We all knew that the Chiefs were a flawed team. This was never going to be a team where every single starter and every single aspect of the team was perfect. The question was if the Chiefs strengths could make up for their weaknesses. On Sunday, going on the road against the team many picked to win the division (some even the Super Bowl) the Chiefs “pros” outweighed their “cons” and they walked away with a huge win in the division. The Chargers will now have to come into a hostile Arrowhead in December and beat a Chiefs team who’s young core of offensive players will have had that much more time to gel just to pull even in their head to head matchup. That’s huge.

The Chiefs have things they have to fix going forward. That’s without question, but if you can win division road games against your perceived biggest competition while you are still figuring those things out you set yourself up to have a very good season.

So let’s take a few minutes and acknowledge both the good and the bad that are going to be a factor going forward for this Chiefs team. Let’s start with the bad to get it out of the way because the good really is the biggest takeaway that we should be focusing on.
