The Dallas Cowboys saw an abbreviated end to their return on the recent trade that sent Parker Ehinger to Big D from the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to see anything at all from their end of a recent trade with the Dallas Cowboys, but the season hasn’t yet started. Unfortunately for Jerry Jones’s team, their end of things has already been settled—at least for the next year.

The Cowboys swapped cornerback Charvarius Ward, a promising undrafted cornerback who made waves in the preseason, to the Chiefs in exchange for offensive lineman Parker Ehinger. Unfortunately the Cowboys placed Ehinger on injured reserve on Friday shortly after suffering a knee injury. They signed Kadeem Edwards to take his roster spot after also working out Xavier Su’a-Filo.

Ehinger was a fourth round pick for the Chiefs in the 2016 NFL Draft and became an instant starter for the team. However it was clear he was never the same after a torn ACL ended his season abruptly. He was slow to return from injury for the Chiefs the following preseason and when he was finally ready he still failed to play over guys like Bryan Witzmann for the Chiefs.

This offseason it was a question of whether or not Ehinger would be able to return to a starting role or not but as the preseason wore on, it was clear the Chiefs were turning the page from treating Ehinger and even Witzmann as a starter along the line. For now that role belongs to Cam Erving and/or Andrew Wylie, at least before the season begins. It will be interesting to see who will occupy that starting role by December.

Ehinger is still only 25-years-old, but he will be a three-year veteran coming off of two serious season-ending injuries by the team next year begins.
