Chiefs injury report: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Damien Williams among players hurt
By Matt Conner
The injury list increased dramatically on Sunday with word that three new players, including Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, were injured.
While the Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a good day of practice on Sunday, head coach Andy Reid would likely take it all back if it meant that a few players wouldn’t end up injured. Hopefully none of the injuries suffered during practice at Chiefs training camp will be serious enough to keep the players off the field.
A few players were unable to finish practice due to a random set of injuries on Sunday. Here’s a rundown:
- Damien Williams had his shoulder looked at today in practice. Interestingly enough it’s right when Charcandrick West was just returning to practice after suffering a concussion early in camp that kept him for several days. Williams has been a lauded addition to the backfield, and he could be competing with West for his roster spot—depending upon how healthy Spencer Ware really looks for the team.
- Laurent Duvernay-Tardif left practice with a head injury and an assumed concussion on Sunday. The guard missed a bit of time (5 games) last season due to injury as well and the Chiefs line just isn’t the same without their doctor. Together with Mitchell Schwartz, Duvernay-Tardif is a strong starting talent at guard who forms a tough wall on the right side in terms of protection for the Chiefs.
- Xavier Williams also left practice on the cart on Sunday due to a stinger. The defensive tackle turned in a brilliant performance of his own on Sunday, earning rave reviews from his fellow players, fans and coaches. He looks like he could be a very strong addition on the defensive front next to Chris Jones—the sort of player the Chiefs have been struggling to find in the middle for some time.
All of this happened on Sunday, the same day in which fans learned the news that Eric Berry would also not be practicing due to a sore heel.
All in all, it was a bad day for the Chiefs at training camp, at least with regards to player availability.
