It’s almost time for kickoff and so we’re reminding you that Arrowhead Addict features the most comprehensive listing of Chiefs-friendly bars on the net and we need your help to keep it updated.

Greeting, Addicts. It’s been a while. I hope you are all well.

Years ago, when I was living in New York City, I used to go out to bars by myself on Sundays to catch the Chiefs games. I was too poor to pay for Sunday Ticket but I knew a spot that had a great deal on beer pitchers called “Beat the Clock.” Pitchers started selling for a low price at noon and the price would go up every hour.  I loved it, not only because I got a good deal on the beer but I’d also avoid getting kicked out for not spending more money because I could stretch that pitcher out a while since I was drinking alone.*

*Not for the first or the last time.

At any rate, drinking alone is sad. It is even sadder when you are watching the Herm Edwards era Chiefs, in a new city where you don’t have any football friends. Thankfully, a year or so later, I stumbled upon the Village Pour House (RIP) in Manhattan. The back room was full of Chiefs fans and they played the game with sound. I began attending weekly. The crowds dwindled as the Chiefs sunk deeper and deeper into futility. Those of us who remained were hardcore masochists and we kept the bar going. Rock bottom came following a loss to the Raiders in which the manager of the bar felt so bad for us that he sent us a plate of nachos on the house as a way to say thank you for showing up to patronize his business every week despite the fact that we always left drunk and miserable. Years later, I moved to Chicago and on to another fantastic Chiefs Bar (Toons!) but I made some lifelong friends at that bar in NYC.

That is a long way of saying that I know many of you out there in the Kingdom do not live in friendly territory. That is why, inspired by my own experiences, a few years ago I launched Arrowhead Addict’s Chiefs Bars directory.

We take submissions all year round from AA readers, whether they be bar owners and patrons, who let us know where Arrowhead faithful can catch the latest Chiefs game with other members of the Kingdom. The directory is only as good as the submissions we receive. We need you to update us when you find a Chiefs bar. We also encourage you to get a group together and found your own Chiefs bar. Let is know the details. Do they play the sound for you? Where do you sit? How many people generally show up? Is there a Facebook page or other organizing list? Also, if you try to go to one of the bars in our directory and it is no longer a Chiefs bar, please let us know so we can remove it.

Let us know where you watch the Chiefs! Remember, any bar can be a Chiefs bar. Our small group in NYC grew simply because people found out about it because of AA’s Chiefs bars page.

Let us know in the comments and send your Chiefs bars details to patrick.arrowheadaddict@gmail.com and we will add your spot to our listings!

Go Chiefs!
