The Honorable Mentions

* Darrel Williams – RB – #31 – In any other year Williams may have had a great shot to make the roster and I expect him to look good in the preseason, but the Chiefs are loaded at running back. Kareem Hunt is a lock as the starter. Spencer Ware looks healthy and should be the primary back up for Hunt. Damian Williams is listed third on the depth chart and is the clear leader for the role of pass catching third down back. That is going to make it really hard for Darrel to make the roster but if he does well in the preseason the Chiefs will likely try to get him onto their practice squad.

* Ryan Hunter – OL – #60 – There was a lot of buzz around the undrafted Canadian coming out of OTAs when he got a few first team reps. Training camp has been a different story though where Hunter has run with the twos and threes throughout camp. He’s still a guy that could earn one of the last reserve OL spots, but the initial buzz has definitely calmed down.

* Byron Pringle and Jordan Smallwood – WR – #1 and #9 – I lumped these two together because I think the same can be said about both players. They are having good camps and would have a better shot at making the roster if there wasn’t a wideout that made the list that seems to be ahead of them.

* D’Montre Wade – CB – #40 – Wade is having a good camp and probably could have made last year’s roster where the CB talent really dropped after the first couple of guys. This season the Chiefs have a deeper group at the position including two rookies that are running ahead of Wade. One is draft pick Tremon Smith and the other you’ll see later on this list. Still, Wade is a guy worth keeping an eye on in the preseason.

Now let’s get to the five guys that I believe have the best shot at making the roster despite never having been drafted.
