The Kansas City Chiefs have released their very first depth chart and it tells us quite a few things despite how far we are from the regular season.

The very first official depth chart is out for the 2018 Kansas City Chiefs, and it’s interesting on a number of levels as we look at the preseason roster.

It needs to be said, first of all, that the Chiefs own leaders at this point would tell you to slow down on making any real reads into the depth chart and that many things can and will change between the present and the regular season. It’s also obvious to all of us that not a single preseason game has been played yet, so there’s plenty of football left to play.

Disclaimers aside, it’s interesting to see how some of the team’s newer faces are fitting in, some hidden gems are being uncovered and some rookies are making their presence felt. It’s also great to see just how deep the Chiefs look in particular places that might ease some of the perceived concerns. Let’s make some preliminary observations:

McGloin v. Litton

Chase Litton has been earning some praise at training camp for the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent from Marshall, but so far it looks like Matt McGloin is successful in his efforts to stave off the surprising rookie. The Chiefs quarterbacks remain listed as they would have been during offseason training activities, and if things hold up like they are now, Litton will likely be relegated to the practice squad.
