The injuries are piling up for the Kansas City Chiefs, especially along the offensive line and at linebacker, as Saturday’s practice gets underway.
Injuries are starting to take their toll on the Kansas City Chiefs roster, especially along the offensive front and at linebacker where the team remade itself over the last year.
Chiefs team reporter B.J. Kissel has word that both starting inside linebacker Reggie Ragland and Anthony Hitchens were not expected to practice on Saturday for the Chiefs as well as offensive linemen Cam Erving and Eric Fisher. In addition, wide receiver Marcus Kemp and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi are also being held out of training camp activities for the day.
Some of the injuries are lingering from the last few days or even beyond. Ragland has been sitting out since he first arrived at training camp as he tries to get his swollen knee back to form. Derrick Nnadi and Eric Fisher came out of practice on Thursday but even with the day off on Friday, it’s clear the Chiefs continue to be careful with both players. More details are likely to come.
We’re also waiting on details for even what could be affecting the others. Anthony Hitchens has been a physical revelation in camp, and Brett Veach has even joked that the team might have to give him a day off so that he doesn’t injure every running back. As for Cam Erving, he’s been filling for Mitch Morse in the middle before he was ready so it’s uncertain as well what is affecting him.
Erving has been filling in on the left side at guard. If he’s going to go into the season as the potential starter there, the Chiefs are now without the entire left side of the line as they prepare for their first preseason game. They’re also without their inside linebacking core. Here’s hoping every single one of the injuries are day-to-day and won’t put anyone’s job in jeopardy for the regular season when it counts.
