The Kansas City Chiefs were without several players at practice on Sunday at training camp including Reggie Ragland.
Four members of the Kansas City Chiefs continue to sit out of practice on Sunday as the team continues to practice in full pads for the second straight day. Fortunately almost all of them were predicted ahead of time as some longtime players are still working their way back.
The surprise among the lot is Charcandrick West. The running back left practice early on Saturday after taking a hit to the head that forced him to spend time with trainers and was later called a concussion. West missing time will give the Chiefs coaches even more time to check out the myriad of competitors they’ve lined up to fight for roster spots behind Kareem Hunt at running back.
Ashton Lampkin has missed every practice so far and it’s uncertain when he will be ready to practice at all. Lampkin missed all of last year with a torn ACL and is still making his way back into the rotation. Cornerback is a thinner position than most on the team if Lampkin can work his way back, but he’s going to need considerable time to not only trust his legs again but to work his way into game shape.
Head coach Andy Reid continues to remind reporters that the swollen knee of Reggie Ragland is really no big deal at all. He blamed it on a couple long flights that Ragland took to get to camp, but somehow that’s not supposed to be a big deal for a team that takes flights all season long.
The other player to miss Sunday’s practice is De’Anthony Thomas, another injured player making his way back from a broken leg suffered late last season. Thomas was re-signed to a one-year deal this offseason despite the fact that the team knew Thomas would be out for some time. He’s not expected to make any major offensive contributions at receiver, but Thomas is still a nice offensive option alongside his primary duties as a core special teams player and returner.
