Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West left practice early on Saturday after he took a hit to the head. His future status is unknown.

Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs were treated to the first real practice at training camp as players donned full pads for the first time as they gear up for the 2018 regular season. Unfortunately for Charcandrick West, the practice also included a head injury that forced him to leave practice early.

Andy Reid spoke to reporters after practice on Saturday and ran down the team’s short list of injuries. Armani Watts returned to the field for the first time since an ankle injury suffered on the first day rookies reported a week ago to camp in St. Joseph. Reggie Ragland continued to sit out with a swollen knee, although Reid added he’s not worried at all about the linebacker. Running back Kareem Hunt was kept out of certain drills due to a lingering hamstring injury.

When it came to West, Reid offered a short, simple statement simply because so much is unknown at this point.

"“Charcandrick took a hit to the head,” Reid said. “Rick [Burkholder] is evaluating him and we’ll just see where he’s at.”"

West is currently locked in a battle at a very crowded running back position, although as an incumbent, he certainly has an edge over other players trying to learn Andy Reid’s system. West faces direct competition from several backs with the same last name. Brett Veach, the team’s general manager, signed former Dolphins running back Damien Williams in free agency on a one-year deal and then added Kerwynn Williams of the Arizona Cardinals to compete at returner. He then signed Darrel Williams from LSU as an undrafted free agent who has turned heads in limited reps.

West had 18 rushes for 72 yards on the ground and 27 catches for 150 rec. yards for the Chiefs last season.
