AFC West positional rankings: Who has the best wide receivers?
By Grant Tuttle
1. Martavis Bryant, Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders acquired Martavis Bryant during the 2018 NFL Draft in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a third round pick. The trade received mixed reviews from NFL analysts. With Martavis Bryant’s troublesome past off the field, many wonder whether the trade was worth the risk. In fact, there is currently some concern that Bryant may be suspended for some of the upcoming season. I truly believe in Bryant’s ability, but until I can see it full-time, I cannot believe that he will take the number two spot in the Raiders offense.
2016-2017: (15 games)
50 receptions, 603 yards, 3 Touchdowns
Prediction:
43 receptions, 589 yards, 4 Touchdowns
2.Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers
Mike Williams will essentially be a rookie this season after spending the entirety of last season injured. Drafted by the Chargers in 2017, he will have a chance to take the number two spot on the depth chart. Taken seventh overall, Mike Williams has a very high ceiling and the Chargers look for him to showcase his ability in year two.
2016-2017: (10 games)
11 receptions, 95 yards, 0 Touchdowns
Prediction:
38 receptions, 499 yards, 3 Touchdowns
3. Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos:
I was not extremely high on any of the rookie receivers this season. However, Sutton was the only one that I believed was worthy of a first round grade and the Broncos nabbed him in the 2nd round. With Sutton being drafted, this most likely means the end of Demaryius Thomas in Denver as both have a very similar style of play and Thomas’s contract will expire soon. Sutton is a good middle of the field receiver and may bring some much needed explosiveness to an aging receiving corps.
2016-2017:
N/A (2018 Draft Pick)
Prediction:
35 receptions, 427 yards, 3 Touchdowns
4. Chris Conley, Kansas City Chiefs
Who really knows what to expect from Chris Conley? After an injury sustained in Week 5, Chris Conley missed the remainder of last season. It is entirely possible that Demarcus Robinson nabs this spot from Conley. However, I believe Conley’s style of play is more suited to be the number three guy on the depth chart. Conley gives the ability to make contested catches in the middle of the field and with Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill on the outside, they will need that kind of production.
2016-2017: (5 games)
11 receptions, 175 yards, 0 Touchdowns
Prediction:
40 receptions, 392 yards, 2 Touchdowns
