Scott Pioli as Joe McCoy
We’re getting into the weeds a bit here when we have several major characters to go, but if you remember season three, then you’ll undoubtedly get angry when I bring up Joe McCoy.
McCoy is the overbearing father of J.D. McCoy who ends up being physically abusive with his freshman prodigy of a son. He’s a wealthy beer distributor by trade, but somehow he’s also always in coach’s face at practice, in his son’s face during his free time, etc. Basically he is obsessed with everyone else’s business to the point that he’s beyond micromanaging, and he ends up making all sorts of rules for his family to follow.
Does this conjure images of a certain ex-general manager? Scott Pioli came into Kansas City with angelic host proclaiming his greatness and left town with his tail between his legs after creating an oddly disturbing culture at Arrowhead Stadium. Employees were leaving because things were so toxic, and Pioli’s controlling personality allegedly had led to specific rules about candy wrappers left on the ground.
Even more, when he got his way, things didn’t go well at least. He crashed and burned when he finally took over, just like a certain TV dad.
