The NFL has reportedly relaxed its policy on wearing alternate uniforms which means the Chiefs can wear their red-on-red look for three games in 2018, if desired.

For those of you who are a fan of changing things up, the National Football League has actually relaxed its rules (gasp!) on its uniform policy. Per Albert Breer over at Monday Morning Quarterback, the league has decided to allow teams to play up to three games in 2018 with its alternate uniforms or color rush look.

For the Chiefs, this means they have the chance to go with their red-on-red look (as illustrated in the photo above) up to three times in 16 regular season games. The last time the Chiefs wore the uniform was during last season’s 30-13 win in mid-December over the L.A. Chargers. They tend to bring out the look in primetime, so perhaps Chiefs Kingdom will likely see the alternate look in a few of the following games:

  • October 1 – Week 4 @ Denver Broncos – Monday Night Football
  • October 14 – Week 6 @ New England Patriots – Sunday Night Football
  • November 19 – Week 11 @ Los Angeles Rams (in Mexico City) – Monday Night Football
  • December 13 – Week 15 vs. Los Angeles Chargers – Thursday Night Football
  • December 23 – Week 16 @ Seattle Seahawks – Sunday Night Football

The Chiefs have eschewed crazier options that they could have pursued during the “color rush” movement of the last few years but they’ve remained true to the alternate red-on-red look over the last five seasons. Travis Kelce even spoke out on Twitter giving a passive aggressive “meh” to the whole thing, but nothing has changed the Chiefs approach in recent years.

If you’re interested in adding color rush options to your own collection, you can do so here.

What do you think of the Chiefs color rush? Do you wish they were more creative? Do you like the traditional approach to alternate uniforms? Sound off in the comments below.
