Though he’s only been in his role for a full year this month, Brett Veach’s tenure has already been marked by several major decisions.

From the beginning, we were told great thing about Brett Veach. Clark Hunt spoke highly of him and Andy Reid was effusive in his praise. In the shadow of John Dorsey’s dramatic exit from the team, Veach sat quietly, waiting for things to become official and his name to be introduced as the new general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs.

That was one year ago this month and the last year has taught us quite a bit about Veach’s methods. We’ve learned that he’s a man of convictions and he won’t be swayed from them. His first ever draft told us that much as he continued to hammer the defensive front while ignoring other supposed positions of need. He also showed he wasn’t afraid to make the difficult decision as he struck early and often this offseason in both the trade and free agent markets.

Let’s look back on a very busy first season for Brett Veach and identify the five most important moves he made. Like them or not, these were the moves that defined his first season in office and will provide some talking points and measuring sticks for the 2018 season. If things go well, we’ll have reasons here to praise him. If not, we’ll be talking about these points in a much more negative light.
