Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Roy Miller has retired from the NFL after penning a tearful letter explaining his reasons.

Roy Miller has made it clear that he’s done. He was also clear that he was not ready to walk away.

The former defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs played much longer than most at the professional level with a 9-year career that featured 84 starts and 119 games played overall. Unfortunately Miller had been a free agent dealing with domestic violence charges filed by his wife.

Miller posted a letter explaining his decision to retire and denying the allegations on Facebook and continued to share the post on social media to not only get the news out there but explain his side of the story. Here’s the full post.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach brought in Miller last summer as a veteran defensive lineman to help the team’s efforts up front against the run. Miller was supposed to join fellow defensive lineman Bennie Logan, linebacker Reggie Ragland and more in a newly remade front to help the team in an area that’s remained a weakness for some time.

Unfortunately the Chiefs once again were pitiful up front against the run and were especially exposed in an early playoff exit to the Tennessee Titans in an embarrassing display at home. Fortunately, Veach has set about completely reinventing the front by drafting Breeland Speaks and Derrick Nnadi in the 2018 NFL Draft to add youth, toughness and potential along the line.

Miller only played 7 games last season for the Chiefs, with just 6 tackles and 1 pass defended. He ends his NFL career with 252 total tackles, 8 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 5 pass deflections.
