Kansas City Chiefs: Six players who could be surprise cuts in training camp

Every NFL training camp features several surprise cuts as teams make difficult choices on who to keep and who to let go. Let’s look at the Chiefs’ options.

A fan base is often more excited about a player than a front office. For instance, one may look at an NFL roster and see players that make them wonder, “How did that player make the team and not this other player? ”

The Kansas City Chiefs have already seen their fair share of departures this offseason with the Alex Smith and Marcus Peters trades and the releasing of veterans Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson. Undoubtedly the most talked about transaction in Kansas City was the Marcus Peters trade. I was shocked anyway. This shows just how expendable players can be. The question that many have around this time of year is, “What player is the next surprise expenditure?”

Here are a few players that hold the potential of being such a surprise on the waiver wire. This group will not contain names of players that fans expect to be or want to be cut before the regular season. These are only names that people would find surprising.

  • De’Anthony Thomas, wide receiver
  • Charcandrick West, running back
  • Spencer Ware, running back
  • Demetrius Harris, tight end
  • Jarvis Jenkins, defensive lineman
