The Kansas City Chiefs have retained one of three players they released this week after they went unclaimed by placing John David Moore on injured reserve.

The Kansas City Chiefs have retained of three prospects they released this week after John David Moore went unclaimed on waivers. The fact that no team claimed Moore means that the Chiefs had the right to then place Moore on injured reserve, which keeps him under team control for another year.

Moore is an interesting offseason addition for the Chiefs in that he’s one of several backs from Louisiana State to enter the NFL at the same time. Derrius Guice was a second round pick for the Washington Redskins and Darrel Williams was an undrafted free agent signed by Brett Veach. Moore was the third back from LSU entering the NFL this spring.

Moore was not expected to get drafted but he’s played and practiced at multiple positions, including fullback, tight end and long snapper. That sort of versatility has earned a guy like Orson Charles some opportunities in the past, and perhaps the Chiefs were looking to see what a player like Moore can bring to the table. Now that he’s on IR, both sides can breathe easy a bit knowing Moore can afford to get healthy while growing in the playbook.

Moore is 6’1, 240 lbs. and has served as primary help for big name backs like Leonard Fournette during his tenure at Louisiana State.

Moore rushed just 8 times and caught 18 passes in his collegiate career.
