Reviewing the Kansas City Chiefs 2014 draft class
By John McCarty
Lightly thought of at the time as a late round offensive lineman, Zach Fulton’s departure in free agency may be the team’s most difficult spot to replace. Versatile and tough, Fulton vastly over-achieved relative to other sixth round selections.
Able to play center and guard, Fulton’s talents are now with the Houston Texans along with the big payday that came with free agency. Numerous players were brought in to compete with the Tennessee product, but Fulton held his own as he was moved in and out of the starting lineup during his career in Kansas City. A great selection by the Chiefs.
Seventh round choice Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has blossomed after being moved inside during his rookie season. Larry, as he likes to be called, is easily the top player from the 2014 draft class, with the distinction of being the last player taken in the class AND did so while graduating from med school. Quite impressive.
While LDT is not great at any one aspect of the line, he’s been mostly healthy during his time in K.C. and a solid interior lineman in Kansas City. His recent contract extension helps ensure he will be the longest tenured Chief from the 2014 draft class.
