Here are my picks to make the active roster:

1. Kareem Hunt

This is an obvious lock. After an incredibly productive season last year, Hunt looks to further improve. He is unusually good at breaking tackles and creating space where there is none. I would not say that the Chiefs did a particularly good job at run blocking last year, yet, Kareem Hunt made them all look adequate.

I am excited to see how Hunt is utilized in a system designed for Patrick Mahomes, but I would be shocked if we had any notion of him “splitting carries.” Hunt will be the number one guy and will get the bulk of the carries and offensive reps.

Hunt could see more room to run this season if the Chiefs decide to use spread offensive sets. Having a guy that can move relatively quickly and break tackles in the middle of the field on top of having a good passing attack makes any offense incredibly dangerous for opposing defenses.

2. Damien Williams

One of my favorite signings this offseason. Damien Williams is a guy who loves football and does not mind doing the dirty work. Whether it be picking up a blitzing linebacker or catching the ball out of the backfield, Williams does so willingly. He has a strong frame and is effective in the passing game, making him an ideal player for this roster.

Williams seems like an Andy Reid guy and I look for him to see the field regularly this season. In a two-back shotgun formation, Williams could a very good receiving back as well as a pass protector. I believe that Kansas City will use him in this capacity very regularly.

3. Kerwynn Williams

I am more confident in Kerwynn Williams than most, and I know this. I just think that his ability to allude defenders and catch the football in the open field makes him another ideal player for this team. While he is certainly not one that I would deem “flashy,” I think he could be a solid contributor, especially in third down-and-long situations. Again, he appears very good in the passing game and very good in space. Kerwynn Williams is a guy that, if I were Brett Veach, I would definitely hold on to.

4. Darrel Williams

How cool would it be to have three backup running backs named Williams? Anyway, I think the Chiefs really like Spencer Ware. I love Ware. I just have serious questions about his injury that no one seems to have an answer to. The severity of his injury may land him on the PUP list to start the season.

If Ware is unable to play, I like Darrel Williams. Our third Williams shows promise, despite going undrafted. I love his ability to run downhill and make guys miss. If he does not make the Kansas City roster, teams will be lining up to take a flyer.

Williams was heavily pursued by several teams after the 2018 NFL Draft. He ultimately decided that he would sign with Kansas City despite the crowded roster space. Is it possible that he was told he had a good chance of making the roster? I don’t know, but I do think that he is confident in his ability and he could definitely make the team.
