Are the Kansas City Chiefs building the best offense in team history?
I don’t know for sure how the Patrick Mahomes era of the Chiefs offense will turn out, but I truly believe it has a chance to compete with the best offenses in franchise history. If you look at the basic numbers that the team put up last season compared to these all time great teams you can see the potential is there.
2017: 375.4 yards/game, 6.1 yards/play, 25.9 points/game
2004: 418.4 yards/game, 6.1 yards/play, 30.2 points/game
1994: 355.8 yards/game, 5.2 yards/play, 19.9 points/game
1966: 365.3 yards/game, 6.0 yards/play, 32.0 points/game
If Patrick Mahomes is the real deal it certainly is possible that the Chiefs could improve on their 2017 numbers sometime in the near future. If that happens then that will put them in the discussion as being right there with the 2004 and 1966 offenses for the best in franchise history. I would argue that the quartet of Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Sammy Watkins have a strong case as the most talented foursome of skill players of any team discussed in this post. All they need is for their young quarterback to live up to the hype that has come from his limited playing time in practice, preseason games, and his one NFL start. It certainly is no sure thing, but just the fact that its possible that we could be watching the early days of one of the best offenses that Kansas City has ever seen is very exciting. What a time to be a Chiefs fan!
So what do you think? Does this offense have the potential to evolve into one of, if not THE best in team history? Is it crazy to have this conversation when Patrick Mahomes has one career start? Do you have a personal favorite of these other great Chiefs offenses? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!
