How much will the Kansas City Chiefs draft class make?
By Matt Conner
Derrick Nnadi (No. 75 overall)
2018 cap hit: $722K
Total contract amount (through 2021): $3.9M (total)
The run stopper has been marginalized to a degree, but the best are still paid like the best despite the NFL being known as a passing league.
Damon Harrison earned $24 million guaranteed from the New York Giants and has a cap hit this year of nearly $10 million. Brandon Williams earned $33 million guaranteed from the Baltimore Ravens and has an $11.5 million cap hit in 2018. Then there is, of course, Marcell Dareus, Aaron Donald and the aforementioned Suh.
It’s a little silly to mention some of the very best defenders in the NFL with regards to a section about Derrick Nnadi, but the Florida State seminole is known for being the best run-stuffing lineman in this draft. Remember last year at this time, Bennie Logan signed for $8 million as a savvy veteran player who primarily stops the run.
If Nnadi can turn the corner and continue to be one of the better run stoppers in the NFL, not only does he plug a huge hole for the Chiefs but he does so at an average of under $1 million for the next four seasons. If he’s a big hit, that’s some serious savings for the Chiefs when others are having to pay prime prices for such a specialty.
