Bashaud Breeland, Cornerback

Bashuad Breeland was drafted by the Washington Redskins with the 102nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Breeland saw his first action that year stepping In for veteran corner DeAngelo Hall who was injured early in the season. He finished that season starting 15 games, totaling 66 tackles, 14 passes defended, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Those are some good numbers from a rookie who was forced into action early due to an injury on the team.

Breeland has been able to build upon his success, posting a total of 60 passes defended, eight interceptions, and seven forced fumbles over his rookie contract. Those numbers enticed the Carolina Panthers to add him to their defensive back field. The Panthers had agreed with Breeland to a $24 million dollar contract with $11 million dollars in guaranteed money. Unfortunately for Breeland his was unable to pass his physical with the team. This was due to a cut on his foot he had gotten while on vacation to the Dominican Republic. The cut had since become infected, so the Panthers terminated the contract.

One would assume that Breeland’s cut has healed at this point. This would make him one of the biggest free agents still on the market. The Chiefs should be interested with how thin the corner back position is on the team. Adding familiarity to the secondary would be ideal as well. Breeland has already played with both David Amerson and Kendall Fuller during their time with the Redskins. If the money is right this should be a no brainier for the Chiefs.
