The Kansas City Chiefs tried to trade up in the 2018 NFL Draft, or at least made some calls, but nothing came of them as Thursday night came and went.
The Kansas City Chiefs never did make it on the board on Thursday night’s opening round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. General manager Brett Veach says he tried to make some calls but the right deal apparently wasn’t there. In fact, he said it wasn’t even really close.
The Chiefs were rumored to be interested in trading up before the draft, and several teams were reportedly interested in coming down into the second round to gain additional mid-round selections. A match appeared to be imminent, but apparently the deal was never right for one side or the other in each instance.
Here’s some more information via Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star:

The Chiefs have three total selections at their disposal on Friday night of the NFL Draft, which covers the second and third rounds. The Chiefs make their first selection at No. 54 overall and then have two more in the second round at No. 78 overall and No. 86.
You can see a list of key prospects still available who would make a nice fit for the Chiefs here.
